I also learned how important finishing details are. <br>\r\nFor example, this piece is made so cleanly and precisely, isn\u2019t it? <br>\r\nIf you look closely at the surface, you can see subtle kanna marks. <br>\r\nAdding these fine planes with a kanna softens the overall impression. <br>\r\nI was taught how vital those extra touches can be. <br>\r\nMy teacher formed pieces with great precision, but also poured care into even the parts that are easy to overlook.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>The Tableware I Want to Make<\/h3>\r\n<p class=\"browntext\" style=\"margin-top:0px\">Hanada: What kind of Tableware do you want to create?<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Naoko Matsuura:<\/strong> I want to create pieces that give a sense of calm. <br>\r\nI came to think this way after hearing words from customers. <br>\r\nWhen people say things like, \u201cYour pottery is soothing,\u201d or \u201cHaving a drink from Naoko\u2019s ochoko washes away the fatigue of the day,\u201d I feel grateful to realize that this is how my work is being received.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.utsuwa-hanada.jp\/hanada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191120-2_02.jpg\" alt=\"\u677e\u6d66\u30ca\u30aa\u30b3\u3055\u3093\u30a4\u30f3\u30bf\u30d3\u30e5\u30fc2019\">\r\n\r\n<h3>One by One\u2026<\/h3>\r\n<p class=\"browntext\" style=\"margin-top:0px\">Hanada: Is there any kind of work you\u2019d like to try in the future?<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Naoko Matsuura:<\/strong> I\u2019ve always loved the bold red overglaze style of artists like Okuda Eisen, so someday I\u2019d like to create tableware with that kind of powerful painting. It may be a bit ambitious\u2026 (laughs). <br>\r\nBut no matter what I make, I believe the most important thing is to continue, as I always have, to work carefully and put my heart into each piece, one by one.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.utsuwa-hanada.jp\/hanada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191120-2_03.jpg\" alt=\"\u677e\u6d66\u30ca\u30aa\u30b3\u3055\u3093\u30a4\u30f3\u30bf\u30d3\u30e5\u30fc2019\">\r\n\r\n<h3>Things I Saw in My Hometown<\/h3>\r\n<p class=\"browntext\" style=\"margin-top:0px\">Hanada: A few words for the upcoming exhibition, please.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Naoko Matsuura:<\/strong> I\u2019d like to create works around the theme of what \u201cJapan\u201d means to me.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"browntext\" style=\"margin-top:0px\">Hanada: What do you feel is the essence of Japan\u2019s appeal?<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Naoko Matsuura:<\/strong> I\u2019m not sure if this is the right word, but perhaps it\u2019s a sense of \u201csimplicity.\u201d <br>\r\nThe landscapes, the feeling of the seasons, the warmth of people\u2026<\/p>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.utsuwa-hanada.jp\/hanada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191120-2_04.jpg\" alt=\"\u677e\u6d66\u30ca\u30aa\u30b3\u3055\u3093\u30a4\u30f3\u30bf\u30d3\u30e5\u30fc2019\">\r\n\r\n<p class=\"browntext\" style=\"margin-top:0px\">Hanada: That must be the scenery of Akita that\u2019s stayed with you since childhood.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Naoko Matsuura:<\/strong> Seeing greenery or wide rice fields still makes me feel at ease.
